Simcoe Muskoka
Skilled Trades Expo 2016
LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre participated in the first Simcoe Muskoka Skill Trades Expo hosted by the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program.
The purpose of the event was to get youth excited about the trades. Approximately 1600 students from grades 7 & 8 were in attendance, as the OYAP coordinators hope to target these youth prior to them selecting their stream within the high school system. The event also focused towards grade 7 & 8 female students to encourage them to look at the skilled trades as an opportunity to expand and grow their future.
The event included interactive hands-on demonstrations such as simulated cement finishing and using a nail gun, which allowed the students to try-out and explore the type of training LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre provides.
