The LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre offers a Utility program that exposes trainees to work in many aspects of the Utility Sector. In the Utility Program, trainees will demonstrate skills to pour and place cable chambers and rebuild existing cable chambers. Trainees will also install duct structures, pole bases and street lighting. This program also teaches them trenching procedures (speed shoring and trenching safety) and how to read locates.
Training will also include exposing cable prior to digging with equipment. Training in this field can lead to working with many utility companies in the Greater Toronto Area. Most of the work in the Utility Sector is outdoors and is done all year round.
